About me

Hi, I’m Sarah. This is the part where I’m supposed to say I’m a German to English translator specialising in helping chemical companies increase their international sales.

Which is what I do, but it’s not the full story.

See, I’m not ‘just’ a translator in the same way as you’re not ‘just’ your job description either. Your needs and wants are as unique as your fingerprint, so very often I write articles, edit non-native English, conduct interviews, and provide native English cultural advice. Whatever it takes to achieve the right results.

I’m a specialist chemical translator, editor, author and occasional international speaker. I love to meet my clients in person, at industry trade shows and conferences, or even at their offices. I might even bring British treats.

Yes, my Portuguese surname is deceptive. It’s my married name and I’m British to the core. Committed tea drinker, profuse apologiser, but not a Brexit supporter.

The Official Bio

(that’s written in the third person to make it sound less like boasting. I’m British, after all.)

Sarah has been combining German and chemistry for more than a decade.

Ever since graduating with a chemistry and German degree, and living for a year in Regensburg, Germany, she’s been working for and with international manufacturers. After several years gaining industrial experience with paper, flooring and pharmaceutical coating manufacturers, she traded her safety gear for a more relaxed office setting to start her own specialist translation business.

She gained a Master’s in translation (with distinction) for evidence of her skills – we scientists know how important evidence is, don’t we?

Sarah is a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) and the German translation association, the Deutscher Verband der freien Übersetzer und Dolmetscher e.V. (DVÜD). Which means she upholds the associations’ code of conduct and continuously develops her professional skills.

You’re in safe hands.

She’s the author of Small Island Big Business, the insider’s guide to success in the British market, and can be booked as a conference speaker.

You must want all the juicy info!

At home in Kent, the Garden of England, you’ll find me experimenting in the kitchen, devising new recipes to use up surplus veg (courgette muffins anyone?) and satisfy my two sons’ ever-growing appetite.

Never one to shirk a challenge, I’ve been known to skydive, abseil down a block of flats, and voluntarily enter mud runs. Lately, I’ve been channelling my inner circus girl to learn aerial hoop skills and fulfil a lifelong ambition to ride a unicycle for longer than 15 seconds. I’ll get there, persistence is everything – ask anyone who’s grappled with Polish grammar for fun.

Now you know me pretty well, what would you like to tell me about you?
